Style icons

Browsing around the internet today, I came across Forever21's website. At the bottom of their homepage on the right hand side it says to shop their 5 style icon pics. What Forever 21 did was pick their five favorite fashion bloggers and had them choose things from the new fall line that they liked best. You can scroll through and see all of the bloggers, and then literally shop for what they 'picked.' In essence, Forever 21 created mini boutiques for each of the bloggers which you can shop from on the site. I think this is a pretty interesting concept, and one that would benefit both Forever 21 and the bloggers chosen. They did a good job of picking interesting and popular bloggers, as I recognized most of them. I also liked that all of the bloggers had their own individual and unique styles, so their 'pics' were all very different. Also, be sure to watch the behind the scenes video of all the girls during the Forever 21 photo shoot.

The bloggers they picked were:

Emily from cupcakesandcashmere

Rumi from fashiontoast

Louise from MissPandora

Minnie from TheStylishWanderer

Kelly from TheGlamourai

New Love.

Well, I have a new fashion love... and it goes by the name of:

RetroSuperFuture

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a strong, and probably unhealthy, obsession with Ray Ban sunglasses. (Wayfarers to be exact.) And while my Ray Ban shades will always be number one in my heart, I've stumbled across another brand of sophisticated eye wear - and I can't take my eyes off of them. The brand, like I mentioned before, is called Super by RetroSuperFuture. The title may be a mouthful, but it completely explains the brand in those three words. They are taking classic and retro designs and bringing them up to date and into the future.

Some of their glasses and sunglasses do have a similar feel to the Ray Ban Wayfarer, however, they have many different interesting models as well. And like the Wayfarer, they are made with the utmost quality and are hand crafted in Italy. Price wise, they are right around the same price as Ray Bans, although some models are more expensive. This price depends on colors or special editions and whether or not some models are wrapped in leather. Either way, I have found myself falling in love with just about every model and frame shape. What RetroSuperFuture does best is combine great and interesting design with high quality materials and bright and attractive colors.

Whether you like to stick with the more traditional look of the basic wayfarer shape, the more modern flat top, the bulkier ciccio, the block-like 'w', the crystal look of the andrea colony or the retro chic lucia frame, the Super sunglasses line is irresistible and hard to miss. And celebrities from all

corners of the entertainment world have been seen sporting these classy shades. People like Gwen Stefanie, Rihanna, David Beckham, Katy Perry, Kid Cudi, JK Rowling and Jessica Alba just to name a few... While the brand's popularity is still climbing, its clientele is also growing.

Since these shades are only sold in a select few boutiques worldwide, your best bet would be to purchase a pair (or three) online at stores like 80s Purple or EyeGoodies. And don't forget that the possibilities of color and model are practically endless, as I could not show all of them in only one post. Perhaps if the brand continues to gain recognition in the future, they will be easier to hunt down and purchase. Until then, be one of the first, and few, to rock these retro stunners.

Stumble-ogs

Surfing the net and coming across fashion blogs is a big part of staying up to date and inspired. I am always finding and stumbling upon new and interesting fashion blogs. Every so often I will create a post like this one that summarizes and links to fashion blogs that I have recently found and enjoyed. Even though there is a constant stream of blogs on the net, I have yet to find two that are the same - and I think that is what is so interesting about the fashion blog 'community.'

Here are a few blogs that I've been intrigued by this week.

ErinJeen.com is a pretty established blog that has been around for a good while. Erin touches on all sorts of subjects, from runway looks to great buys and even celebrity style. What I have really liked about her site recently was her commentary on New York Fashion Week s/s 2011. She does a great job with her blog, and it's easy to see that she has a lot of connections and successes within the industry. I believe she is also interested in PR, so you can read what she has to say about that as well. Definitely check this one out.

MarianKihogo.com is another blog that I randomly found this week. Marian is fashion editor at Glossy Magazine and also does creative consulting and styling. Her blog covers everything ranging from fashion, trends, beauty, music, art and interviews. I really like the layout of her blog, and how extensive it is. Her photos are always gorgeous and her sense of style is very strong. She also covers many of the fashion shows extensively. I have really enjoyed looking through her site and I'm sure you will too.

Karlascloset.blogspot.com is another one of my new found favorites. For my final blog suggestion of the day, I thought I would choose her site because it is different than a lot of others I've visited recently. For starters, her personal style is amazing, and the pictures of her and her clothes are really breathtaking. The unique thing about her blog is that many of her clothes are vintage, and she even has a whole seperate site dedicated to selling vintage clothes that she finds at various places and shops. I really enjoy seeing all of her different outfits, and I like that she explains where all of her clothes are from. This blog is a must-see!

I hope you enjoy stumbling on these blogs yourself. Let me know what you think about them!

Down to business.

Success! The blog is up and running, and amandavogt.com is now in full swing, hah.

I think I should kick-start my blog with giving a quick overview of New York Fashion Week. To do this I will touch on my favorites from s/s 2011.

*All photos used are from Style.com

Obviously, Marc Jacobs. His line was captivating and colorful. I think it was reminiscent of the glamour of the 70s, and he really captured that era well while also making it relevant. I really liked the oversized hats and all the accessories. The floral touches pulled the colors together well too. It seems like he can do no wrong!

I also fell in love with Marchesa! The dresses were absolutely gorgeous, like fine works of art. The level of craftsmanship was out of control and the effect was almost surreal. Some dresses were sculpted, others beaded and a few looked like they had been painted on. I also loved the color tones and all of the detail that went into every single piece. I seriously loved every look in the collection, but here are a few standouts.

Thirdly, I chose DVF. The use of pattern and saturated color worked so extremely well together. I truly loved the perfectly circular sunglasses and the color coordinated shoes. All of the pieces fit the models well and looked so effortless. The layering was just right, and I even enjoyed the v-neck and hood combination. Overall, the collection was very strong and well connected.

Lastly, I would have to say that Proenza Schouler would also be a highlight. Their play on bright colors (green, yellow, coral) with black overlay, texture and exposed undergarments was a hit as far as I'm concerned. I loved their jackets and skirts, but I also liked their dresses and flowing fabrics. The bib necklaces and messy-chic hair were just icing on the cake as the collection was both impeccable and unexpected.

Half way there.

After spending the better part of yesterday getting set up with a hosting site and buying a new domain name, I am now finally able to write my first post.

I was hoping to be able to connect to my brand new domain name instantaneously, however, that is not the case. According to the website it takes at least 24 hours before everything gets connected properly. So right now, if you search for amandavogt.com you will get a godaddy error message. Very frustrating, I know…

Nonetheless, I feel as if I am off to a great start. I’m so excited to get this goal off the ground (so to speak). Hopefully by tomorrow sometime I will have my own personalized website off and running. But until then, I will be dodging tornadoes and getting some shut eye.

Best,

ALV
