Instagram

That's right folks! I was finally able to download Instagram onto my Android phone the other week and I am having a ball. If you have Instagram, you should definitely follow me! [Just search for amandavogt] I may have just started posting photos, but I am on a roll! My favorite photo subjects thus far have been my painted nails, the city around me, fashionable friends, people on the street and anything else that catches my fancy. If you follow me, I will follow you back! I love seeing everyone's pictures. Until you get around to adding me.... here are a few of my latest photos.

P.S. Be on the lookout for a new addition to the website. I'd like to get things going by this coming weekend, but if not, then definitely the next weekend after!

Pinterest

Of course you are all most likely aware of Pinterest by now, but I just finally got an account started for myself. Although I knew about the site since spring 2010, I didn't feel like setting up my own page just yet. Plus no one else I knew was really into it at the time. However, I've found that it's a great way to collect all of your inspirational images and display them in one place. Not to mention you might lend some inspiration to other people in the process. Whether you are looking at the latest fashion trends, admiring fashion editorials or just browsing through art, there's really nothing quite like it. So, since I've decided to take this on, I'm going to change up the layout of AmandaVogt.com. Since I have Pinterest page based solely on inspirational (mainly fashion) images, I am going to get rid of that section on my website and instead have a portfolio page with examples of my work, writings and other published articles. This way I can make the most out of the space I have here, and also see what inspires you all. I linked my blog to my Pinterest account from the main page of AmandaVogt.com for easy access. So in case you are wondering where my inspirational images went, now you know! And be sure to check out my Pinterest page, and follow me if you have an account of your own. [If you don't, I highly suggest you start one up!]

B Magazine

A friend and I started up a fashion magazine a few months ago as an independent project while we were finishing up our last couple quarters in college. We worked with graphic designers, photographers, writers and models to create our publication - B Magazine. We came up with photo shoots and story ideas revolving around fashion and did our best to be as creative as possible. It was finally completed and uploaded today and I am very pleased to share it with you all. Click on the photo below to flip through a preview of the magazine digitally, and be sure to give us any feedback you may have! You can also purchase a digital or print copy for yourself at Magcloud.com

Videos galore

Below is an example of a high quality 'behind the scenes' video of a July 2010 Terry Richardson shoot for W Magazine. W Magazine has made some really interesting advances in the way they connect with their audience via their website. Not only do they have written content, blogs and loads of photos, they also have many high quality videos. Some of the videos posted on the site are actually directed specifically for the site, while others are behind the scenes shots of photo shoots and screen tests. They have quite the archive going, with different categories consisting of fashion, art, runway and celebrities. The videos are free on W's website so that anyone can access them.

The behind the scenes videos on W's website are very well put together, often layered with music and text. I like the different aspect that the videos give to photo shoots. And after seeing the fashion spreads in the magazine for myself, I really appreciate seeing the video that was filmed along with them. I think it's an interesting idea that W pulls off so well. The other videos that are directed give another angle of perspective. These videos add an element of, and appreciation for, art that would otherwise not come across in their print magazine alone. Here is an example of one of these directed films, shot by well-known artist Alex Prager. It is currently featured on the home page of W's website.

I think that other magazines could take a cue from W and come up with related video content like they do. This is yet another way that magazines can utilize the internet while also giving their readers more in-depth content. It's a seamless way to connect print with digital and take readers along for the ride. Plus, these videos entice readers because they are free and because they give readers the feeling of being "insiders." By creating this new channel of consumption, W Magazine has really stepped ahead of other fashionable competitors.
